How Much Should You Tip Your Waxing Expert? “Like any other service environment, gratuity is at the discretion of our guests, but 20% is standard and a good starting point,” says Helene Marie, waxing expert at European Wax Center.

Start at the baseline industry standard of 15-20% of the cost of your bikini wax. Feel free to tip at the lower end of this if your service was not up to your standards. Don't forget to ask them for a modification before letting your displeasure be reflected in your tip, though- they may have a solution!

Before waxing, grow your hair out to at least 1/4-inch long — 1/2-inch long at the most. If it's too short, you might want to reschedule your appointment. If it's too long, lightly trim the area or ask a technician to help you out.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to “how often should you wax?” as it varies depending on the type of waxing you're getting and how quickly your hair grows. However, the general rule of thumb is to wax every 4 to 5 weeks to keep up with hair growth and prevent regrowth long term.

While most people tip between 10 to 20 percent for a wax, staff would really like you to tip anywhere from 15 to 25 percent for a job well done, Grochowska said. For a quick brow wax (that may be priced at $10 or less), a couple of dollars for tip is fair and appropriate.

Wear loose-fitting clothing

If you're not familiar with the process of waxing, you may not know that it is very important to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing to your waxing appointment.

You will not have to get completely naked for a Brazilian wax. Of course, any clothing from the waist down will have to be removed, but anything from the waist up can stay on. One thing to suggest to your clients is adequate clothing to wear for their Brazilian wax.

While Brazilian waxing is generally safe, there are potential side effects, including pain, redness, and ingrown hair. If you don't find the right esthetician, you may feel embarrassed.

A Brazilian wax removes all the hair in your pubic or bikini area, from front to back, and it typically lasts 3 to 4 weeks once you establish a waxing routine.

Hair that's longer than ½ inch can make waxing more complicated as its prone to breakage when waxed off for first-timers, which means the follicle won't be removed and your results won't last as long. Long hair can also cover up other hairs during a wax, which requires repeated waxes of the same area.

Can you be too hairy for a wax? ›

Once your hair is at least ¼ of an inch long, you can come in for a wax. If it's longer than ½ an inch, you may want to trim (not shave) the area for a more pleasant experience. We'll do this for you, otherwise. Avoid tanning within 24 hours of your appointment.

Finally, as you continue waxing regularly, you'll notice your hair regrowth coming in finer, softer, weaker, less pigmented, slower… allowing you to stay smoother, longer. You'll be able to push future wax appointments out further and further. And ultimately the hair may stop growing altogether.

Breakage happens when the wax doesn't pull out the entire hair at the root, and instead it breaks it off at surface level. This means that the hair will grow back faster.

How Much to Tip. If you choose to tip your injector, it should be between 10 and 20 percent of the total bill, which is standard in the beauty industry. But don't be offended if your injector also refuses your offer. Amelina says she politely declines tips from her clients.
