Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (2024)

Use the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (1) on your AppleWatch to keep your boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, student ID cards, and more in one place for easy access. Passes in Wallet on your iPhone automatically sync to your AppleWatch. Use a pass on your AppleWatch to check in for a flight, redeem a coupon, or get into your dorm.

Set options for your passes

  1. Open the AppleWatch app on your iPhone.

  2. Tap MyWatch, then tap Wallet & ApplePay.

Add a pass using your iPhone

When you do something like purchase a ticket, you often have the option to add it to Apple Wallet.

To add a pass, follow these steps.

  1. On your iPhone, open the app, email, message, notification, or other communication that contains your pass.

  2. Tap Add to Apple Wallet.

Note: Not all passes are supported by Apple Wallet.

  3. Follow the onscreen instructions or tap Add in the upper-right corner.

Using your iPhone, you can also get passes by tapping Add to Apple Wallet from any of the following:

  • A web browser such as Safari

  • AirDrop sharing

  • Wallet notification after you use Apple Pay at a supported merchant

  • A QR code or barcode

To scan the code, open the Camera app on your iPhone, then position the phone so that the code appears on the screen.

Add a pass directly from your AppleWatch

If you’re sent a pass in email or in a message, you can add it directly on your AppleWatch. On your watch, open the email or message that has the pass, tap it, then tap Add to Wallet.

Use a pass

You can use a variety of passes on your AppleWatch.

  • If a widget for a pass appears in the Smart Stack: Tap the widget. You might have to scroll to get to the barcode.

  • If you have a barcode pass: Double-click the side button, scroll to your pass, then present the barcode to the scanner. You can also open the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (2) on your AppleWatch, select the pass, then scan it.

If a pass changes—for example, the gate on your boarding pass—your pass updates on both iPhone and AppleWatch.

Get pass details

To get more information about a pass—a flight’s departure and arrival time, for example—do the following:

  1. Open the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (3) on your AppleWatch.

  2. Tap a pass, scroll down, then tap Pass Details.

Share a pass or ticket

You can share certain passes in the Wallet app with people who have an iPhone or Apple Watch (not available for all passes).

  1. Open the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (4) on your AppleWatch.

  2. Tap a pass, scroll down, tap Share Pass, then choose a sharing option such as Messages or Mail.

Use a contactless pass, key, badge, or student ID card

To present a supported contactless pass, digital key, company badge, or student ID card to a contactless reader, do one of the following.

  • If you have a contactless pass and it appears in the Smart Stack: Tap the widget. If there’s no widget, hold your AppleWatch within a few centimeters of the reader, with the display facing the reader.

  • If you have a digital key, company badge, or student ID card: Hold your AppleWatch within a few centimeters of the reader, with the display facing the reader, until AppleWatch vibrates; there’s no need to double-click the side button.

For more information about Wallet and contactless passes, digital keys, company badges, and student ID cards see the iPhone User Guide.

Reorder passes

On an AppleWatch that you set up for yourself, open the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (5), then touch and drag transit, access, and payment cards and passes to arrange them. The payment card you drag to the top position becomes the default payment card.

On a managed Apple Watch, you can touch and drag all pass types to reorder them.

Remove a pass you’re finished with

  1. Double-click the side button, then tap the pass.

  2. Scroll down, then tap Remove.

You can also open the Wallet app on your iPhone, tap the pass, tap Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (6), then tap Remove Pass.

When you remove a pass from one device, it’s also removed from the other.

See expired passes

To keep clutter under control, your AppleWatch hides passes that have expired. You can view expired passes by following these steps:

  1. Open the Wallet app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (7) on your AppleWatch.

  2. Tap Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (8), then tap View [number] Expired Passes.

  3. Tap a pass, then view its details.

You can also choose to unhide, share, or delete it.

To always show expired passes, open the Settings app Add and use passes in Wallet on Apple Watch (9) on your AppleWatch, tap Wallet& ApplePay, then turn off Hide Expired Passes.
