How to Add a Ticket to Your Apple Wallet So It's Not Lost in Your Inbox When You Need It (2024)

For those with packed schedules filled with travel, concerts, and other exciting events, you'll want to know how to add a ticket to Apple Wallet to make all your entrances smooth and stress-free.

Once you've saved your ticket or boarding pass to the Wallet app, all you have to do is swipe to open the saved ticket on your iPhone, show the person at the door your code to scan, then breeze right on through. This means no more frantic swiping through your inbox or rifling through your backpack for a crumpled paper pass — an all-too-frequent occurrence we're happy to leave behind!

While there are some exceptions, the instructions for how to add a ticket to Apple Wallet are straightforward. Read on to learn how to keep all the digital tickets for your upcoming plans in one place.

1. To add a ticket or boarding pass to Apple Wallet, you'll usually need to download the ticket vendor's app. (For example, if you bought an Amtrak ticket, you'll need to download the Amtrak app.)
2. Once you have the app downloaded, navigate to the page where you can access your ticket information.
3. If the ticket is available to save, tap the "Add to Apple Wallet" icon. Note that some apps (like Airbnb) may not have this icon, but they will display their own "Add to Wallet" menu option to select instead.
4. The ticket will pop up, displaying the necessary booking information, as well as a QR code or bar code. Tap "Add" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to add it to your Apple Wallet.
5. You can check that your ticket has been added by opening the Wallet app and scrolling down until you see it.

When you've added a ticket or boarding pass to your Apple Wallet, you'll see it pop up on your smartphone's lock screen on the day of (or in the hours leading up to) your event.

To open the ticket, simply swipe on this ticket notification, unlock your phone, and show your code to the person who's scanning tickets.

Some ticket-takers may ask you to increase the brightness of your screen so that your code can be read. To do this, swipe down the top right-hand corner of your iPhone and adjust the brightness bar.

If your ticket has been scanned and you want to unstick it from your phone's lock screen, select the ticket in your Wallet App, tap the circle icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, tap "Notifications," and toggle off "Suggest on Lock Screen."

After the date of your ticket reservation has passed, Apple Wallet will move your ticket to the bottom of the screen — you can tap "View Expired Passes" and select the option to remove your old passes from there.

While most of the major travel and entertainment brands have Apple Wallet compatibility, unfortunately, not all tickets can be saved to Apple Wallet.
